International Conference XXIVth GENETIC DAYS 2010

International scientific conference “Genetic Days” is traditionally focused on animal genetics and breeding. This conference is held regularly in two-year interval, and its organization is alternately provided by agricultural universities (faculties) in Brno, České Budějovice, Nitra and Wroclaw.
The „XXIVth Genetic Days 2010” are dealing with the problems of the animal and recently of the plant genetics. The focus of this conference is “Functional genomics and proteomics for sustainable agriculture”.

The conference ensures enough space for relevant findings from both basic and applied research in animal and plant genetics. Therefore, apart from university tutors and researchers, participation can be recommended to representatives of breeding organizations, veterinary administration workers, agricultural advisors and providers of services in agriculture, as well as other professionals whose work increasingly involves new findings of the genetic research.

Mendel University in Brno is pleased to announce that Brno has been chosen to host the Conference XXIVth GENETIC DAYS 2010 from 1th – 3rd September 2010, Brno. The Conference will be held at the university campus.

Brno, the Czech Republic‘s second largest city, is the metropolis of Moravia and an important tourist and university centre of the South-Moravian region. It lies in the central part of Europe and within its two hundred-kilometre radius there are other important European capitals: Prague, Vienna and Bratislava. Brno is city of the Augustinian priest and scientist, who gained posthumous fame as the "father of modern genetics", the city of Gregor Mendel.

The conference will be structured around themes, each with invited speakers covering major topics in, or relevant to, animal and plant genetics, genomics, proteomics and breeding.

Focus of the conference: “Functional genomics and proteomics for sustainable agriculture

Thematic sessions:

  1. Animal molecular genetics, genomics and proteomics
  2. Animal genetics, breeding and diversity
  3. Plant molecular genetics, genomics and proteomics
  4. Plant genetics, breeding and diversity
  5. Vision for animal breeding and genetics in research and education

Within all the thematic sections, papers will be delivered in the form of lectures or posters. Posters will be preferred with regard to the delimited time span of the conference. The abstracts of the contributions will be published in the conference proceedings.

Invited plenary lectures:

We hope you will join us in Brno in 2010.

J. G. Mendel Awards for Young Scientists

Young scientists (PhD students and post-doctoral fellows) are welcome to apply for J. G. Mendel awards" for the best contributions in the field “Genomics and Proteomics for Sustainable Agriculture”. Three of them will be selected by the scientific committee. The successful applicants will be asked to present their contributions as invited speakers and awarded a grant for the XXIVth Genetic Days including the conference fee, travel and accommodation costs. Applicants have to send a statement from their institution, that they have the status of a PhD. student or post-doctoral fellow.
